Dear CTC members,
The hot and sunny summer is gone and the rainy seasonhas arrived. In case you are wondering
what has happened to all those wonderful new umbrellasCTC installed a few months ago on the
courts, they have been removed and safely stored for thewinter. With proper care, they should last
for many years. The umbrellas were purchased withCupertino Tennis Club membership funds and
will be re-installed next spring to again provide shadeon our courts.
Per the CTC Bylaws, the President and Treasurerpositions have a two-year term limit. Having served as CTC President for the past two years, it is time for meto depart from the CTC Board. Since this is the last time I will be writing to you as the President ofthe Club, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for all yoursupport during these two years. Ihave met many members through the social events and on the tennis courts and Ihave received many supportive comments and feedback from you through emails andverbal conversations. They havebeen very helpful and I thank you for taking the time to share your thoughtswith me.
In my two years serving on the CTC Board, I have had thehonor of working with a group of dedicated people who share the common passionof making CTC a fun, organized, and safe place for our members to enjoy thegame of tennis. All the monthly Board Meetings were well attended and livelydiscussions were conducted. I amalso very pleased that we have a good and productive working relationship withthe Cupertino Sports Center and the Cupertino Parks and Recreations.
This year we have achieved most of the goals we set outat the beginning of the year. Thecredit goes to all the Board members who volunteered many hours of theirpersonal time to make them happen. Pat Frischmann, Vice President, led theproject that resulted in having umbrellas on the courts and also captains the3.0/3.5 Ladies Interclub. Emi Kawamoto, Secretary, got all meeting minutespublished on time and captains the 3.5 Ladies Interclub. Jack Stanley,Treasurer, kept our budget balanced and was instrumental in getting the extrabenches on the courts. JohnSperinde, Membership, ensured our Club follows the Cupertino City requirementswhen our 476 members are playing either USTA or Interclub matches.
In the past few months, the Election Committee headed byour Vice President, Pat Frischmann, has been reaching out to members interestedin serving on the CTC Board in 2013. The election for the 2013 Board will be held at the
Again, thank you for all your support during my twoyears serving as the President of the CTC. I will be seeing you in future Club activities and on thetennis courts.

SEPTEMBER CTC SOCIAL A SMASHING SUCCESS !
by Rob Kunzler, 2012 Socials Director
As with the March 10 and June 23 Socials, we had a fullquota of players for the CTC September 29 Social and from what I could see, andfrom the feedback I received, it was a great success. We witnessed lots of funpairings and match-ups from 3.0 to 4.0 levels, including "combo"pairings (people of different rating levels playing as pairs). As usual, weplayed four rounds of eight no-add doubles games, including men's, women's, andmixed match-ups, followed by freshly delivered pizza.
It's a lot to organize six courts and four rounds ofdoubles, but the considerable time spent was worthwhile as I have yet to meet aparticipant who did not express satisfaction with the event.
I have enjoyed organizing this year's three Saturdayevening Socials. As often is our happy fortune in California, the weather wasperfect each evening. However my time in this rewarding position will run itscourse at the end of the year, and a new Director will be voted in at theDecember 2nd Annual Membership Meeting.
Thanks again to everyone in the club who participated. Iam particularly grateful to those who were willing to help me out by beingon-site back-ups. They are the people who really ensured the success of theSocials, as I was in the confident and relaxed position of knowing for surethat we would have four people on every court, and that everybody would get toplay "proper" doubles. If there is one thing you can do to make aSocial director happy, volunteer to help in this way, and you will have aperson who will sing your praises for many years to come!
Thanks for a ÒsmashingÓ year.
