CTCNewsletter                           PassingShots                          September 2012

A message from the CTC President:

Fellow CTC members,

I hope you are enjoying the umbrellas shadingthe USTA competition courts 2-7. The umbrellas are part of the Sports Centerfacility improvement projects funded by our Club. Recently, we have also added6 more

benches to those courts.  As I mentioned in the last newsletter, the Board is also working on 2 projects that

should be ready this fall.  First, we are working with the SportsCenter on a court weather-conditions viewing web cam.  Our goal is to have it installed and online before the rainyseason.  Second is a brand-new CTCwebsite.  Our web master and histeam are working hard to launch a beta version in the latter part of thisyear.  I would like to ask for yourpatience regarding our completion dates since volunteers are doing all of thework in their free time. On behalf of the CTC Board, I would like to thank allof the members who sent us facility improvement suggestions throughout the lastyear. I also appreciate all of the feedback we have received on the actionsthat the Board has taken.  Yoursuggestions and comments are always helpful in setting our direction and focus.

Admiring the success of the WomenÕs Interclub, many men in the past year had requested the Board sponsor a MenÕs Interclub andin response, (in the last newsletter), I announced that the Board voted to funda MenÕs Interclub for 2013.  Iasked for anyone interested in participating to email me.  So far, I have received only a handfulof responses.  I would like to keepthis offer open for another couple of months.  If there is still not enough interest, we will close theoffer and no money will be allocated to the MenÕs Interclub in the 2013 budget.

Time has gone by so fast - we are alreadyapproaching the 4th quarter of the year. It is now time, yet again, to startforming the new CTC Board for 2013. The elections and final selection of the next Board will be held at theAnnual Membership Meeting in December. Although every Board Director position is up for nominations, 2positions will definitely be vacant and need to be filled.  Because of the 2-year term limit forthe CTC President and Treasurer positions as dictated by the CTC Bylaws, bothJack Stanley and I will be leaving the CTC Board at the end of the year.

I urge everyone who would like to volunteeryour time and effort for the betterment of the Club to consider running for aBoard Director position for 2013. Please contact Pat Frischmann, CTC Vice President at V-P@CupertinoTennisClub.orgfor any questions. You can find a list of Board positions below.  Your passion and involvement are keysto the success and continual future success of our Club.

CTC will offer 16 teams forthis season with the playing season starting October 1st and ending December 2,2012.

A reminder to the Combo captains:  Please form your roster with Ò1stchoiceÓ declared players before accepting any players who declared Ò2nd choiceÓor ÒAnyÓ declared players. NON-DECLARED players should be last in line for aplace on your roster.  This is afair way to apply to ÒIntent to PlayÓ procedure.

Please note that the ÒIntent to PlayÓdeclaration period for Combo has ended. Players - if you DID NOT declare your intentto play on a Combo team but would like to play, I remind you that the captains MUSTchoosefrom the ÒdeclaredÓ lists first.

A special note to the declared ÒANYÓplayers:  I appreciate yourparticipation in the ÒIntent to PlayÓ process.  Now is the time to be pro-active and contact a captain tohave your name added to the roster. Please remember that the rosters fill quickly and the captains will tryto accommodate you as much as possible. If you have any questions, please emailme at USTA@Cupertinotennisclub.org.

As usual, CTC has reached the maximum numberof USTA teams able to play on the CSC courts.  I am taking an optimistic view that USTA will not overwhelmus with home matches all in the same week. If that situation does arise andhome match dates need to be rearranged, IÕm sure I can count on the captains(and the players) to be flexible. We will all do the best we can to work together! If you have anyquestions, please email me at USTA@Cupertinotennisclub.org.

*PLAYERS:YOU HAVE THE POWER!  You are the only ones who can avoid theClub instituting the dreaded ÒDo Not Declare, Do Not PlayÓ rule by diligentlyusing the ÒIntent to PlayÓ procedure. It is no secret that courts and court time are limited. My goal is toschedule as many teams as possible so that as many members as possible get toparticipate in the USTA leagues.  Icannot emphasize enough the importance of declaring your intent to play so thataccurate plans can be made in a timely manner.  Many thanks to the captains and members who adhere to therule and declare their intent to play. Unfortunately, there are still too many repeat offenders- those who donot (or never) use the Intent process yet assume they will be on a team.  So far, they have been lucky enough toplay.  WARNING... Unless we see a decline in Repeat Offenderssoon, the Club will establish a Do Not Declare, Do Not Play rule.  2013 USTA Leagues will be here beforewe know it so when you receive the email stating the dates for ÒIntent to PlayÓAdult or Senior league tennis, make a point to go on the website (www.cupertinotennisclub.org)and DECLARE!  With USTA creating newleagues (and over-lapping play times), it becomes more and more of a challengeto find court time at CSC to accommodate all of our players.  Help us by letting us know your intentions......................................................................

                                                               DECLARE, DECLARE, DECLARE !!
