The contact information for all Board members can be found in the CTC website: www.cupertinotennisclub.org

.

The CTC is co-sponsored by the City of Cupertino.  The objectives of the Club are:

            to promote recreational and social tennis;

            to encourage skill improvement and sportsmanship in tennis;

to establish teams to represent CTC; and

to provide opportunities for tennis competition in Cupertino.

The funding of the Club is generated solely from the membership fees.  The majority of the Club expenses are used toward benefitting our members.  The Club expenses in 2010 were as follows:

65% USTA activities (ball,s rule books, captainÕs gifts...)

20% Social Events (4 Social events and Interclub matches)

            11% Charity and community Support

            4% Operation and Administrative

The Board meets once a month and the upcoming meeting date is published in the CTC Website.  We are in the process of working on the 2011 budget and the activity plan. If you have comments or suggestions related to the Club, please donÕt hesitate to contact any of the Board members.

I am excited and honored to be working with a group of capable and enthusiastic volunteers in the Board to provide our services to the Club in the coming year.  I hope to meet all of you in the near future.

CTC ADULT LEAGUE PLAYERS  - PLEASE READ!

Despite the rescheduled Senior League rain-out matches, the Mixed League started smoothly on January 10th.  Even though we are at the beginning of the Mixed League season, USTA scheduling requires that CTC begin planning for the Adult League season now.

CTC asks all members planning to play Adult League, as well as all members planning to captain a team, to declare their intent to play and/or captain before registering on any team, or registering a team, on the USTA website. We do so in order to prevent the numbers of teams from exceeding the court capacity at the Cupertino Sports Center.  By looking at the Òintent to playÓ list, CTC will have a head count and be able to determine how many teams we can possibly accommodate.  Of course, members can change their mind and decide not to play later on.  If you change your mind at a later date and want to play or form a team but did register your intent, please remember that it may be hard to squeeze you or your team in once we max out our courts.

Members who intend to play should not feel they have to have a captain in mind to sign up on the CTC website.  If you donÕt have a captain in mind simply leave the ÒcaptainÓ line blank.

Please go to the CTC website at www.cupertinotennisclub.org

(** see step-by-step instructions below) and sign up by January 31st if you are planning to participate in the Adult League this spring.

*  *   Step - by step instructions to declare

                              Your ÒIntent to playÓ

1.  Go to www.cupertinotennisclub.org

2. Click on the link ÒSign Up ProcessÓ and complete the form.  If you wish to captain a

team, please sign up as early as possible so your players can find your name in the list

    of captains.

3.  If you havenÕt done so already, renew your membership for 2011. New this year

    - sign your waiver and pay your membership fee on-line!

4. Check your renewal date for your Sports Center Pass.  Do you need to renew?

5. Captains - please do not register your team(s) until we notify you.  You will be contacted within a couple of days of the closing date.

Everyone who signs up to play will receive the announcement of teams and a list of captainsÕ contact info in mid-February.  Please contact captains and get their approval before you register for their team(s) on the NorCal website.

Thanks and see you on the courts!

CTC SOCIALS Coordinator plans for some 2011 fun!

For 2011, CTC plans to hold 4 social events; one per quarter.  Since competition for court time with USTA leagues and social

tennis is ever present, our court allotment for socials this year will be up to 6 courts on Saturday evenings, after 6:00 p.m.

Last year, our format was to have twenty-four people playing in rounds of 30 minutes each.  This gave each court the ability

to play 8 doubles games with no-ad scoring.  This format worked well and we will be offering the same this year.

CTC will, as always,  provide pizza and drinks.

Our next social is scheduled for Saturday, February 19th.  A separate email will be sent shortly detailing the sign-up process.

If you have any comments or suggestions, or if you would like to help with the socials, please email me at :

In order to play on a Cupertino USTA or Interclub team, you must be a current member of the Cupertino Tennis Club (CTC).  This is a requirement of the City of Cupertino for liability reasons.  Note that membership in CTC is for the calendar year and expires on December 31st.  So, if you play in a USTA league starting in January, you must become a member for the current year before playing in a league match.  An exception is made for a league that begins at the end of the year and finishes in the beginning of the next year.  Example:  If you are on both a Senior team and a Mixed team, you can play matches on the Senior team until the season ends without renewing your CTC membership.  However, you must renew your membership before playing a match in the Mixed league. The exception does not apply to Ladies Interclub due to the duration of their season in both years.  To become a CTC member, go to the CTC website (www.cupertinotennisclub.org

), click on ÒMembershipÓ then Ò2011 membership applicationÓ.

It is expected that captains will only put players in their lineups if they are current CTC members.  To check if a player is a current CTC member, go to the CTC website, click on ÒMembershipÓ and ÒMembership lists (name only) for 2011Ó.  All current members will be on the list.  If a person is not on this list, they are not qualified to play in the Mixed season, for example.

The Club may, from time to time, inform the captains of players on their UTA team(s) that are not CTC members but the captains should rely on the website list as their primary guide.  You may wonder why we put the burden on the captains.  It is simply because only the captains can control who plays in their matches.  Neither a captain not the Club can force an individual to become a CTC member.  But playing only CTC members in a match is a captainÕs responsibility.

Thanks for your cooperation. Any questions should be directed to membership@cupertinotennisclub.org

.
